Moving House Checklist

The time has come, and you are finally ready to move into your new home. But before you pack up and start making tracks, there are a few points to consider to make sure the transition goes as smoothly as possible. With that in mind, here are a few tips to take on board before you start moving home.

Research Your New Home

Firstly, you will want to do some research into the home you are moving to. This will give you a better idea of what furniture and essential items you need to take with you and give you a chance to see what facilities and activities are found in the local area. If you have kids, you will need to start transferring the relevant information to their new school.

If you are currently renting, and you have an idea of the date you will be moving in, then be sure to make your landlord aware of the specific date.

Packing Up

Now the research you did on your new home comes into play. You will have a better idea of what household items you want to take to the next location. This also means it is time for you to have a big clear out of the furniture you don’t want to take with you, saving you time and money when it comes to moving day. The best way to prepare is to take an inventory of all the items in your house. This will provide you an efficient way of deciding what is staying and what needs to be gotten rid of.

Prepare to Move

Now for the move itself. You need to outline the details with your professional moving company, such as times you are moving, directions, and any emergency numbers you want to provide. You may also have the task of moving a child or pet too, so you will want to find the appropriate care for them if necessary. If you do have unwanted furniture that you haven’t gotten rid of yet, then get it packed down and disposed of in a safe, environmentally friendly way.

The Final Checklist

The time has come, and you are ready to lock up and leave. Remember to have made the relevant utility checks, have all the beds and curtains stripped, and have the keys ready for your landlord or new owners. Assure that all windows have been secured too and that you have made sure any fragile boxes are marked clearly. By now, your essential mail should be at your new location too. You could also consider packing an overnight bag just so you can settle into your new home a bit quicker, before the big job of preparing your furnishing for your new home.

By taking these tips on board before you move home, you can avoid many of the stresses that come with moving. It is, of course, an exciting time when transitioning to a new home, but it can also be an overwhelming one, so make sure you are fully prepared before doing so.
